Laser tattoo removal is a procedure that uses concentrated light energy (lasers) to break down the ink particles in a tattoo so they can be absorbed and eliminated by the body’s immune system.
Multiple sessions are usually needed (typically 6–12 or more), depending on the size, color, age, and depth of the tattoo.
Darker inks, especially black and dark blue, are easiest to remove. Brighter colors like green, red, and yellow can be more resistant.
Pain level is often compared to getting a tattoo or having a rubber band snapped against the skin.
Side effects may include redness, swelling, blistering, scabbing, temporary skin discoloration, or, rarely, scarring.
Effectiveness varies—some tattoos may fade completely, while others may only partially disappear.
