Laser Tattoo Removal

Laser tattoo removal is a procedure that uses concentrated light energy (lasers) to break down the ink particles in a tattoo so they can be absorbed and eliminated by the body’s immune system.

Laser tatto removal

Whether you’re looking to erase an old tattoo that no longer fits your lifestyle, rejuvenate your skin, or address pigmentation issues, I have the advanced technology to help you achieve your goals. At Blush Studios, I offer state-of-the-art tattoo removal services using the latest Super Pico laser technology. I am  here to provide a safe and more cost-effective solution.

Why Pico laser?

Laser tattoo removal has come a long way from its early days, and one of the most advanced and effective methods available today is removal using a super picosecond laser. This cutting-edge technology uses ultra-short bursts of energy — measured in trillionths of a second (picoseconds) — to break down tattoo ink particles more efficiently than traditional lasers.

Unlike older Q-switched lasers that rely on nanosecond pulses, the super picosecond laser delivers energy so rapidly that it shatters ink into much finer particles. This allows the body to clear the pigment faster and more effectively, often with fewer sessions, less discomfort, and minimal risk of skin damage. It's particularly effective on stubborn colors like blues, greens, and reds, and works across a wide range of skin tones.

Whether you're looking to completely remove a tattoo or simply fade it for a cover-up, the super picosecond laser offers a faster, safer, and more powerful solution — revolutionizing how tattoos are erased.

How does super picosecond laser tattoo removal work?

Super picosecond laser tattoo removal works by delivering ultra-short pulses of laser energy — each lasting just a few trillionths of a second — directly into the skin where the tattoo ink is located.

Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of how it works:

  1. Targeting the Ink
The laser emits highly focused light energy at specific wavelengths that are absorbed by tattoo ink pigments, not the surrounding skin. Different wavelengths are used to target different ink colors.

  2. Shattering the Ink Particles
The super picosecond pulses hit the ink particles with such speed and force that they create a photoacoustic effect — essentially vibrating the ink particles until they break apart into tiny dust-like fragments. Because the pulses are so short, there's minimal heat, which means less damage to surrounding tissue.

  3. Natural Elimination by the Body
Once the ink particles are broken down into smaller fragments, your body’s lymphatic system gradually removes them over the following weeks. The immune system treats the ink as waste and flushes it out naturally.

  4. Multiple Sessions for Best Results
Tattoos are layered and often made of different inks, so multiple sessions are needed to fully remove or significantly fade them. However, with the power and precision of super picosecond lasers, fewer sessions are typically needed compared to older technologies.

Why it's so effective

  • Faster ink particle breakdown = quicker fading

  • Minimal skin damage = lower risk of scarring or hyperpigmentation

  • More colors treated = especially effective on resistant shades like blue and green

  • Safe on more skin types = suitable for a broader range of tones

In short, the super picosecond laser removes tattoos by using ultra-fast energy pulses to break ink into microscopic fragments that your body can clear — offering a safer, faster, and more effective tattoo removal process.

What to expect

Consultation: I begin with a personalized consultation to assess your tattoo and discuss your goals. I’ll create a custom treatment plan that suits your needs.

Treatment: Each session takes approximately 10-30 minutes, depending on the size and complexity of your tattoo. You may feel mild discomfort, but most clients tolerate the procedure well.

Recovery: After treatment, the area may feel slightly sensitive, similar to a mild sunburn, but this typically resolves quickly. I’ll provide aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing.

How many tattoo removal sessions will I need?

The number of sessions required for tattoo removal with Pico laser technology varies based on several factors, including:

Tattoo size: Larger tattoos generally require more sessions.

  1. Ink colors: Darker inks like black and blue typically respond faster, while colors like green, yellow, and red may need additional treatments.

  2. Tattoo age: Older tattoos often fade more easily, while newer tattoos may take longer.

  3. Ink depth and quality: Professional tattoos with deeper, high-quality ink can take more time to fully remove.

  4. Skin type: Different skin tones may respond differently to laser treatments.

On average, most clients need 6 to 8 sessions for optimal results, but some tattoos may require more depending on the complexity. Sessions are usually spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart to allow the skin to heal and the body to process the ink fragments.

When it comes to removing colored tattoo inks like green, red, and yellow, specific wavelengths of laser light are more effective at targeting these colors:

Common side effects of pico laser tattoo removal

While Pico laser tattoo removal is safe, there are some common side effects:

  1. Redness and Swelling: The treated area may be red and swollen for a few hours or days.

  2. Blistering: Small blisters can form as part of the healing process but typically resolve within a few days.

  3. Scabbing: Scabs may form as the area heals. Avoid picking to prevent scarring.

  4. Temporary Skin Color Changes: The skin may lighten or darken temporarily (hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation), especially for those with darker skin tones. This usually fades over time.

  5. Mild Discomfort: A sunburn-like sensation may occur but generally subsides within a day or two.

  6. Itching: Mild itching can occur as the skin heals.

Less common but more serious side effects, like infection and scarring, are rare when the procedure is performed by a trained professional, and post-care instructions are followed.

Is laser tattoo removal painful?

Laser tattoo removal isn’t painless, and the level of discomfort can vary based on the tattoo’s location, size, and your pain tolerance. Most people describe the sensation as similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin or a mild stinging feeling.

To reduce discomfort, many providers apply numbing creams or use cooling devices before treatment. While certain areas, like the ribs or ankles, tend to be more sensitive, most patients find the procedure tolerable. Additionally, sessions are relatively short, usually lasting between 10 and 30 minutes.

Laser tattoo removal aftercare instructions

After Pico laser tattoo removal, proper aftercare is essential to promote healing and avoid complications. Aftercare instructions:

FOR AT LEAST 24 HOURS AFTER YOUR TREATMENT...

  • Apply cold packs (wrapped in a barrier like a towel) to the affected area(s), taking them on and off every three to five minutes for one to two hours.

  • Elevate the treated area above your heart intermittently

  • Avoid physical activities that cause perspiration like exercising, as well as prolonged standing or walking (especially important if your tattoo is located below the knee!)

  • Avoid direct heat, including steam rooms, saunas and hot water.

  • Avoid wearing tight, restrictive clothing over the treated area(s).

FOR AT LEAST THREE DAYS AFTER YOUR TREATMENT (AND UNTIL YOUR TATTOO IS FULLY HEALED)

  1. Gently clean the treated area with mild soap and water. Pat the area dry with a clean towel, avoiding rubbing.

  2. Moisturize the area with over-the-counter hydrocortisone 1% mixed with Aquaphor®,
up to three times daily or as needed to help reduce irritation or itching.

  3. Avoid Sun Exposure. The treated skin will be more sensitive to sunlight, so keep the area covered. Use sunscreen with an SPF 35 or higher.

  4. Avoid Picking or Scratching. If blistering, scabbing, or peeling occurs, do not pick at the skin to prevent infection and scarring. Allow the skin to heal naturally.

  5. Avoid topical irritants— these potentially include harsh soaps, medicated washes, scrubs, oils, numbing agents or antibacterial creams.

  6. Avoid Hot Tubs and Swimming Pools Avoid soaking the treated area in water, like hot tubs, swimming pools, or baths, for at least a few days to prevent infection.

  7. Wear Loose Clothing If the tattoo is in an area that comes into contact with clothing, wear loose-fitting clothes to avoid irritation.

  8. Monitor for Signs of Infection Watch for signs of infection such as increased redness, swelling, yellow discharge, or severe pain. If these occur, contact your doctor immediately.

  9. Stay hydrated and maintain a healthy diet to support your body’s healing process and help your immune system clear the ink fragments.

  10. To improve the results of your treatment once your tattoo is healed… Gently massage the area of your tattoo with a thin layer of Aquaphor® to improve vascular
and lymphatic flow. Also, Engage in light aerobic exercise to help improve blood circulation.

What to do before your laser tattoo removal or fading treatment (two weeks before your treatment . . . )

  • Avoid prolonged, direct sun exposure and tanning beds.

  • Avoid spray tans and any other kind of self-tanners on the area of your tattoo.

  • Apply sunscreen SPF 30+ when outdoors, and cover the tattoo with protective clothing or an adhesive bandage.

  • Avoid any aesthetic treatments that may cause irritation to your skin in the treatment area.

THE DAY OF YOUR TREATMENT…

  • Remove any products such as, lotion, sunscreen, makeup, spray tan etc. from the area of your tattoo. If you forget this one, I’ll have wipes on hand.
Shave the area of your tattoo if needed, in the direction that the hair grows with a new, clean razor and moisturizing shaving gel.

  • ANY CHANGES TO YOUR MEDICAL HISTORY… New diagnosis? New pregnancy? New medications? I need to know. Please tell me, as some medical conditions and medications are not compatible with laser treatments. It may be necessary to reschedule your appointment, as your health and safety are always my top priority!
